Movement and Motion: Brainstorming and main idea

For my movement and motion project I started off by brain storming a few ideas. Some of the ideas I came up with were to do with nature, the movement of a persons face over time and mechanical movement. However when researching in the library I came across a book, A Century of Dance, I was immediately intrigued by the patterns of dancers in old silent movies of the the 1930's.

I then collected a series of images from books and the Internet and then displayed them on my wall in my studio space to give my inspiration and motivation to get the best results from my project.

I was then drawn by the picture of the barbie legs on the far right as it captured movement really well with the use of such a stationary object and considered that the actual barbie legs could be quiet useful for a piece of sculpture.
When visiting a church in County Clare in Newmarket on Fergus recommended by my tutor, it was interesting to see that the patterns on these panels were simple procedures that i could replicate by pressing my barbie legs in clay and casting them in plaster mould.

These concentric swirls reminded me of the geometric shapes in the dance scenes. So I used some of the legs Barbies and cast them in clay.
